Supporting Disaster Relief: Hurricane Ike As always, in the aftermath of disaster, our community is eager to reach out and help those who are in dire need of relief. If you are wondering how best to direct your gifts, we can share the following information from our colleagues in the community foundation world. In addition to national relief organizations such as The Red Cross, community-based organizations know their communities and are able to deliver vital services such as medications, diapers and formula, and health care and mental health support. If you are not familiar with the local community/faith-based organizations in the region, you can contact one of the local community foundations in the affected areas. To find contact information for the community foundation closest to the area you would like to support, use the Council on Foundation’s Community Foundation locator at http://www.cof.org/locator/. We are aware of two relief funds supporting relief and recovery efforts, but there may be more.
